Crochet Basket | Crochet Star Basket | Room Decoration Scrap Yarn Crochet Project Free Pattern
From hexagons to pentagons,
From star motifs to baskets!
I love to experiment. This one looks quite similar to the simple hexagon-shaped basket I made earlier. That hexagon made me want to make another that is pentagon-shaped. This time I wanted something more colorful.
I had a lot of fun playing with scrap yarn while working on this pentagon-shaped basket, which started as a star motif. Don't you think the star in the middle matches the five bead-like corners of the basket so very well?
I hope you will have as much fun crocheting this basket as I did.
I think this is a great Christmas crochet project, by the way!
Below you will find the video tutorial for this crochet basket, the materials needed, stitches used, and the gauge.

SLST = Slip Stitch
SC = Single Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
DC = Double Crochet

ST(s) = Stitch(es)
Special Stitches:
ESC = Extended Single Crochet: Insert hook into the next ST. YO, pull up a loop = 2 loops on the hook. YO, pull through only the first loop = 2 loops on the hook. YO, pull through both loops.
EDC = Extended Double Crochet*: YO, insert hook into the next ST. YO, pull up a loop = 3 loops on the hook. YO, pull through the first 2 loops = 2 loops on the hook. YO, pull through only the first loop = 2 loops on the hook. YO, pull through both loops.
*Please note that the EDC stitch used in this project is crocheted my way, and not the traditional way. In case you were wondering, this is how to crochet it the traditional way: YO, insert hook into the next ST. YO, pull up a loop = 3 loops on the hook. YO, pull through only the first loop = 3 loops on the hook. YO, pull through 2 loops = 2 loops left on the hook. YO, pull through both loops.
Feel free to crochet it whichever way you want, but I think my altered version looks better for this project!
Gauge:
Base Rounds 1-6 = measure about 11cm across
